Summer Spirits

That's right: spruce up your tea with spirits!

To kick off something new, we are launching a July exclusive series of Summer Spirits blog posts! What you will find is an array of tea cocktail recipes for you to try - for any summer occasion!
To be real, a pool party wouldn't be complete without tea (although, I might be a little biased about that). However, what about adding a little liquor to the mix? Things get a little more interesting, and now you have a cocktail party. John Daly's are a pretty renowned cocktail, otherwise known as spiked Arnold Palmers. Let's not forget the timeless value of a classic drink! This recipe makes a full pitcher, so be prepared to share with friends and family!

INGREDIENTS

-4 cups boiling water

-5 green tea bags

(Organic Sencha and Drawstring Tea Bags)

-3/4 cup sugar

-1 tsp lemon zest

-4 cups cold water

-1 cup bourbon

-1/2 cup fresh lemon juice

Garnish with a lemon slice

*Note: Another good green tea alternative is Organic Lemon Ginger Mate because it has a strong flavor and accent.

INSTRUCTIONS

1.) Pour boiling water over tea bags in a large bowl. Add sugar and lemon zest, and stir until sugar is dissolved. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes.

2.) When finished, pour mixture through a fine strainer into a large pitcher, discarding the tea bags and zest. Stir in the cold water, bourbon, and lemon juice.

3.) Cover and let chill for 30 minutes up to 12 hours. Serve over ice, and garnish if desired.

The lemon zest + bourbon adds the subtlest but most effective kick in this drink. And it's just as refreshing as it sounds! As the summer sun heats up the patio, it's up to you to cool down with a cocktail. Most importantly, however, is please remember to drink responsibly!

Cheers to teatime!
