Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 teaspoons Organic Herbal Orange Cinnamon Spice tea (crushed finely)
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 2/3 cup cold heavy cream (plus more for brushing)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup dried cranberries or golden raisins

Orange Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar 
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice 
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 

Directions


  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the finely crushed tea and orange zest.

  3. Cut in Butter: Add cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together cream, egg, and vanilla extract.

  5. Mix Dough: Add wet ingredients to dry, stirring gently until just combined. If using, fold in dried fruit. Don’t overmix.

  6. Shape Scones: Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges and place on baking sheet. Brush tops with cream.

  7. Bake: Bake 15–18 minutes or until golden.

  8. Make Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, orange juice, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm scones.
