White tea is one of my favorite teas! It is light with a smooth flavor, making it a perfect drink for any time of day, any season, hot or cold!
If you want to introduce someone to tea, white tea is a perfect "gateway" tea! It's mild and smooth taste will make anyone "fall in love"!
But you may ask, "what is white tea?" and "Why is it so great?"
White tea comes from the same plant as all other teas, Camellia sinensis. It is the least processed of all tea types and uses the buds of the plant along with its leaves. It gets the name "white" from the white fuzz on the buds.
White tea doesn't get "much love" for it's health benefits like green or black tea, but it is jam packed with antioxidants, polyphenols and catechins. In fact, white tea has more antioxidants than green or black tea!
A 2009 study at Kingston University showed the properties of white tea help reduce the risk of developing heart disease, cancer, and arthritis! This same study also showed white tea has anti-aging properties! (ummm, yes please!)
You can now understand why, "I'm dreaming of a white tea Christmas"... and for that matter, a White Tea Year too!
