Organic Gotu Kola | Tea of the Week

Carly Pearl-Sacks

Hey tea lovers!

This week, we are giving the floor to one of our new single ingredient products! Say hello to Organic Gotu Kola!

Gotu kola has a few names including Asiatic pennywort, Indian pennywort, or kodavan. This herbaceous perennial originates in Africa, Asia, Australia, and islands in the western Pacific Ocean. Gotu kola became popular when a fantastical story went around about an ancient Chinese man who lived for more than 200 years because he included the plant in his diet. Even though that story is far from accurate, gotu kola has earned a spot in our line of products because it does have amazing health benefits!

Gotu kola is eaten whole in some places but is very commonly drank as a tea too! It's mild flavor makes it a great ingredient to add to your favorite tea as an extra health benefit or drink by itself. I personally sweeten it with a little honey!

Now let's talk benefits! Gotu kola has been used historically to treat syphilis, hepatitis, stomach ulcers, mental fatigue, epilepsy, diarrhea, fever, and asthma. Today, gotu kola has been reported to be beneficial for varicose veins, insomnia, anxiety, brain fog, wound healing, and joint pain.

I hope you enjoyed learning about this ancient herb and will give it a try!
