Craving a healthy matcha cookie recipe?
If you’ve heard of matcha, you’ll probably know it’s used everywhere, from traditional ceremonies to smoothies, ice cream, pasta, and baked goods! If you’re unfamiliar with matcha, you’ll be surprised to know the tea packs antioxidants, vitamins, and caffeine, making the tea a popular alternative to espresso. You can learn all about matcha’s benefits by visiting our complete guide to matcha, or you can read on to learn how to bake a delicious and healthy spritz cookie!
What is a spritz cookie?
Spritz cookies are similar to shortbread cookies, except they are baked with egg, which allows the cookie to hold its shape. Spritz cookies also don’t crumble like shortbread cookies!
When I searched for the best matcha cookie recipe, I found a lot of tasty looking results, but nothing seemed as good as those spritz cookies my grandma used to bake when I was a kid.
I dug out an old spritz cookie recipe from my grandma and modified it to include matcha! The result is a light shortbread type of cookie that is perfect with a morning cup of tea.

Recipe Note
If you’re shooting for a healthy matcha cookie, we highly recommend using ceremonial or organic premium matcha from Japan. Not only is Japanese matcha higher quality and free from rice fillers, but it’s often more palatable and packed with nutrients than its Chinese counterpart. You can shop for Japanese matcha here.
We hope you enjoy this light and fluffy matcha green tea cookie! Paired with iced green tea, this cookie brings comfy spring vibes!
