Herbal Tea For Eye Health

Eye problems are on the rise with screen usage - whether it’s a tablet, computer, or cell phone. With the rise in technology comes an increase in dry eye, eye fatigue, blurry vision, and headaches. Many people may try to treat these symptoms with blue light glasses. However, studies show it’s doubtful whether the glasses actually help, or if they simply remind the wearer to lessen screen usage.

The American Optometric Association says Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) can be lessened by following the 20-20-20 rule. (Look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to give your eyes a break). However, there are many studies showing specific herbs that can help with not only preserving vision but improving it too. We’ve used these studies to make the best herbal tea for eye health.

Our Organic Healthy Vision Tea is made with office workers in mind. We use Ginkgo Biloba and bilberry leaves which are known to help improve and preserve vision. Bilberry leaves specifically work by improving circulation, which helps preserve the retina.

Bilberry was historically used to help aid night vision. There are also studies showing bilberry may help prevent cataracts and glaucoma. Ginkgo Biloba has also been shown to help with brain health, even being used in some studies to treat dementia patients.

Besides these two powerhouse ingredients, our Vision tea also contains fennel and turmeric, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Reducing inflammation in the eyes may help prevent macular degeneration. Macular degeneration is often genetic and can result in blindness or night blindness.

We finished the tea blend with anise seeds and green tea. The anise helps give this tea its slightly sweet aftertaste, as well as helping with depression and regulating blood sugar. (Both depression and blood sugar are common problems in the stereotypical American office environment).

Anise seeds, like green tea, are also high in antioxidants, which help reduce oxidative damage. Oxidative damage is the specific stressor that can eventually lead to dry eye and loss of vision.

The green tea in Organic Healthy Vision contains catechins which are beneficial for eyesight and may help prevent oxidative damage. Specifically, green tea has a gallocatechin which collects in the retina and helps prevent blue light damage. Green tea extract has been used in eye drops to help treat dry eye.

All of these ingredients work together to help reduce swelling, prevent eye diseases, and help promote healthy eyes. I recommend this to any office worker or anyone worried about dry eye, macular degeneration, or blurry vision.
