What is Pu-Erh Tea?

Pu-Erh is a fermented tea that comes from the same plant that makes green and black tea. The fermented quality of this tea gives it a deep, earthy flavor as well as a long shelf life.

Benefits of Pu-Erh Tea:

  • Contains Antioxidants
  • Helps lower cholesterol
  • Helps reduce blood pressure
  • Improves mental focus
  • Aids in reducing stress
  • Improves digestion

Tea vs. Coffee

Coffee and tea both offer energizing rituals, but they deliver that energy in very different ways. Coffee tends to provide a quick, intense boost thanks to its higher caffeine content, which can sometimes lead to jitters or an energy crash later on. Tea, on the other hand, offers a more balanced experience. The caffeine in tea is released more gradually, especially in darker teas like pu-erh, which also contain L-theanine. L-theanine is an amino acid that promotes calm focus. This combination creates steady, sustained energy without the sharp spikes often associated with coffee, making tea a gentler and more mindful alternative for daily enjoyment.

Other tea that make a great coffee alternative

  • Organic Royal Blend: A blend that contains black tea, oolong and pu-erh.
  • Organic Green Energy: A blend of yerba mate and matcha.
  • Matcha: Highly caffeinated and is a popular coffee alternative.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Organic Cocoa Pu-Erh Tea

  • 1 cup hot water (just off boiling)

  • ½ cup coconut milk (full-fat for creaminess)

  • ½–1 tsp maple syrup or honey (optional)

Steep the cocoa pu-erh tea in hot water for 4–5 minutes to create a strong brew.

Make it your own:

  • Add a spice twist: A pinch of cinnamon or cardamom can add extra warmth and flavor to your latte.
  • Swap out the sweetner: If you like drinks on the sweeter side, try adding brown sugar or some vanilla.
  • Milk options: This recipe calls for coconut milk which is creamy and refreshing for an iced latte. Use an option like oat milk for a cozier drink, or a chocolate milk for more of a mocha inspired drink.
