Why Turmeric?
Amazing health benefits and great taste.
Turmeric is a spice with incredible health benefits and a long history across the globe. Turmeric, unsurprisingly, comes from the turmeric plant. Interestingly enough, this plant is in the same family as another powerful tea ingredient: ginger!

Turmeric’s use dates back over 4,000 years. Historically it was used as a spice in cooking, as medicine for the sick, and as a component in religious ceremonies. To this day, there are traditions in both the Hindu and Buddhist faiths that include the use of turmeric. The spice’s unique, yellow color is even sometimes used to dye clothing.

One of the main reasons that turmeric is so good for your health is because it contains the compound curcumin. Curcumin is great for fighting inflammation, reducing cancer risk, increasing brain health, and more!

Turmeric Health Benefits

Turmeric Tea has many amazing health benefits. It may be used to ease the symptoms of countless diseases, including arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and cancer is some. Turmeric Tea may also help boost the immune system, lower cholesterol, and prevent the formation of ulcers. In some, it helps reduce inflammation throughout the body, a major cause of many illnesses. See below for other health benefits of Turmeric Tea.

First, Turmeric Tea is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants can help neutralize free radicals in the body. Free radicals are molecular species that can exist inside our cells’ nucleus. They are known to attack macromolecules and can cause serious cellular damage. The antioxidants in Turmeric Tea help prevent our body from producing free radicals and minimize the damage they may cause.

High levels of oxidative stress cause high cholesterol. Oxidative stress occurs when your body is overrun with free radicals and is unable to break them down. The antioxidants in Turmeric Tea reduces your oxidative stress and positively impacts your cholesterol by lowering your LDL (bad cholesterol).

Turmeric contains Curcumin, a compound that decreases inflammation in the body. Inflammation is the source of several dangerous diseases. Inflammation can also exacerbate weight gain and cause discomfort. Curcumin will help fight inflammation and may decrease your risk of disease.

Arthritis is another disease that is exacerbated by inflammation. Turmeric reduces this inflammation and can relieve some of the painful symptoms of arthritis. It can also decrease swelling and may even help with osteoarthritis pain.

Curcumin can also be effective at helping you fight cancer. Some researchers hypothesize that it can reduce a cancer patient’s risk of metastasis. Metastasis is the process by which cancer cells spread from one part of the body to another. Drinking Turmeric Tea might prevent the cancer cells from spreading and help keep cancer under control.

Inflammation and oxidation can also cause heart disease. Because Turmeric Tea is an excellent source of antioxidants, it reduces the prevalence of both inflammation and oxidation, making your heart stay healthier, longer.

Turmeric Tea may also help prevent dangerous brain diseases. Some research has demonstrated that the compound Curcumin can help reduce the synaptic marker loss and the build-up of amyloids linked to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Curcumin is also effective in warding off strokes.

And lastly, Turmeric can help lower blood sugar and has even been known to reverse insulin resistance in some. Curcumin, which does a lot in this tea, is also capable of keeping blood sugar levels in balance. Some people have even considered using Turmeric as an alternative to traditional diabetes treatments.

What does turmeric tea taste like?

Turmeric has a strong flavor. Some people consider the taste of raw turmeric to be pungent and bitter. Raw turmeric is quite aromatic and can, therefore, be unpleasant to eat. When mixed with other products, however, the taste can be pleasant. When served in powder form, turmeric tastes earthy and peppery.

Turmeric and Ginger are closely related spices and have a similar flavor profile. Turmeric Tea even smells quite a bit like ginger mixed with oranges. Making turmeric into a tea helps cut much of the root’s bitterness. Turmeric Tea has quite a rich, soothing taste, perfect on a cold night.

Turmeric Tea often includes a huge variety of additional spices that increase the complexity and depth of the tea’s flavor. Turmeric is a responsive spice. Mixing it with lemon, for example, will result in a completely different flavor than mixing it with cinnamon.

At Full Leaf Tea Co., we offer three different Turmeric Teas. The Organic Turmeric Green Tea offers up equal flavors of Turmeric and Green tea, resulting in a medley of flavors that are great for your health.

The Organic Turmeric Ginger Mate Tea combines the flavors of ginger root, turmeric, and yerba Mate. Yerba Mate is an infusion of leaves found in South America. Much like coffee, Yerba Mate has a strong taste and high caffeine content. Combined with ginger and turmeric, this tea is deliciously cozy and smooth to the taste.

The last Full Leaf Tea Co. Turmeric Tea is the Organic Lemon Turmeric Tea. This is a white tea that contains hints of orange and rose along with lemon and garlic. This is a rich tea that will help you feel like your best self, even after a long day.

How much caffeine is in turmeric tea?

Turmeric is a spice and does not contain any caffeine. The caffeine content of Turmeric Tea will, therefore, depend on the other ingredients in the tea. When paired with a black tea, Turmeric Tea contains up to 90 milligrams of caffeine in an eight-ounce cup. Turmeric mixed with green tea will contain slightly less caffeine, around 70 milligrams per eight-ounce cup.

The caffeine in white tea is slightly less. A turmeric white tea will contain around 55 milligrams of caffeine. As previously mentioned, Yerba Mate contains around 40 milligrams of caffeine. So Full Leaf Tea Co.’s Organic Turmeric Ginger Mate has quite a high caffeine content.

How do you make turmeric tea?

Our loose leaf Turmeric Teas are simple to make. If you have a drawstring tea bag, such as our Natural Paper Drawstring Tea Bags, you can fill it with one teaspoon of your favorite Turmeric Tea, steep the tea in eight ounces of hot water for 5-7 minutes, and it’s ready to drink. Be sure to consider the base of your Turmeric Tea when steeping. If it is an herbal tea, you can steep it longer than if it is a black tea, which grows bitter if steeped for too long.
