What is Wild Lettuce?
Organic wild lettuce (Lactuca virosa), also known as opium lettuce or bitter lettuce, is a plant native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is called "wild" because it grows naturally in the wild, and "organic" refers to its cultivation without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The plant has a tall stem, green leaves, and small yellow flowers. Historically, it has been used for its sedative and analgesic properties, as the sap contains compounds that are thought to have a mild pain-relieving effect. Wild lettuce is sometimes used in herbal medicine for its potential calming effects, particularly to aid sleep and reduce anxiety.
