Why Coffee is Killing You

Is coffee slowly causing your health to deteriorate? If you have felt under the weather lately, it may be time to switch up your morning routine. America’s most popular drink is guilty of causing some sneaky health deficits.

People often drink coffee to get their caffeine boost. However, the high level of caffeine in coffee is actually your worst enemy. Dr. Mark Hyman explains the caffeine in coffee increases catecholamines, which are your stress hormones. This can create a stress response increasing insulin production.  In turn, insulin increases inflammation and may make you feel unwell. Coffee can also cause restlessness, anxiety, and agitation.

Man out of coffeeThere is also the dreaded caffeine crash! Coffee provides a great energy boost, but it leaves as fast as it arrives. Many drinkers experience a downfall in energy and mood if they don’t brew another cup. In contrast, people also get caffeine jitters when they consume too much coffee. People who drink coffee a lot can experience caffeine withdrawals when they don't have it, causing days of irritability, tiredness, and pounding headaches.

Drinking unfiltered coffee is even worse for you. It increases total cholesterol, which can lead to cardiovascular issues. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States!

Matcha And CoffeeOther sources cite coffee’s high antioxidant count as a reason why you should drink coffee. Antioxidants are great and necessary for the human body to be healthy! However, the amount of antioxidants in coffee doesn’t even compare with the high amount of antioxidants in matcha green tea. With all of the bad side effects of coffee, the small antioxidant bonus isn’t a reason to keep drinking it.

There have been some studies that report positive results from drinking coffee. In order to get these benefits though, one must drink their coffee black. In a world full of creamers, sugars, and syrups, most coffee drinkers are canceling out any of the health benefits available from coffee by adding one or more of the above.

No CoffeeIn addition, coffee full of sugars is terrible for your teeth! When you add sugar to coffee, it speeds up the growth of bacteria in your mouth. This bacteria discolors teeth. Even black coffee is harmful to teeth. One cup of coffee a day is enough for your teeth to start yellowing. In contrast, green tea is great for your teeth! Check out our blog post to see why.

How do you survive without coffee? Find a new healthier energy source! Matcha green tea is one of the highest sources of antioxidants in the world, and is known for its amazing all-day energy boost. Best of all, there is no crash! Matcha contains less caffeine than coffee, so you can say goodbye to jitters and caffeine withdrawals. Matcha even supports stress relief! It contains the amino acid L-theanine which helps relax and calm the mind. Enjoy all of the benefits of coffee with none of the pains!

Overall the damaging effects of coffee are extremely unhealthy and not worth the caffeine buzz! Kick your coffee to the curb now!
